Jeff Simon
From SenatorAdams
Jeff Simon is a fictional character in The Mike Adams Series. He first appeared in the opening chapter of The Proxy Senator.
Biography
Jeff Simon was born in Connecticut, and immediately became a "legacy" - his father, Bradley Simon, was a member of Phi Delta Theta. Jeff would later pledge, join, and be elected co-president of the same fraternity. He attended the University of Florida, where he was elected to the Student Senate for two terms as part of the majority party, and was eventually tapped to join The Circle, as were most successful student leaders at UF (including his father during his college days).
Despite initially joining The Circle with the desire to run for Student Body President, in the spring of his junior year Jeff ran unsuccessfully as an insurgent candidate for Student Body Treasurer. A few months later, he joined the crowd seeking an autograph from best-selling author Mike Adams for his own copy of The Unlikely Gentleman.
He graduated with a degree in architectural design, but after a summer internship, he put his career temporarily on hold to work for the Adams Senate campaign, as a student outreach director. He father was not pleased with his choice, as he thought it was a "waste of talent" to work in government instead of architecture.
During the campaign, Jeff was sent by Adams to follow Ashley Woodward and protect her while skiing in Aspen. She is kidnapped and in his attempt to free her, he is trapped with her inside her time-shared house. Yet, their kidnappers were no match for the FBI, and they were quickly freed.
When Adams was elected to the Senate, Simon began pursuing a graduate degree in Latin American studies from the University of Florida, while working for the Senator as an assistant in his Gainesville district office. This allowed him to remain close to his friends at the University, and keep tabs on the ongoing activities of The Circle.
Character traits
Jeff is pragmatic, but logical in his thinking. He accepts the existence of an establishment, but doesn't tolerate unethical practices. He sees himself as a reformer in the same way Mike Adams is. He doesn't believe in "legacies", which has lead to disagreements with his father.
Trivia
- When initially introduced in the opening of The Proxy Senator, Jeff was only meant to be a one-chapter throw-away character, to show the reader a fan of Mike Adams. His is a character that grew as the novel was written, and is now considered one of the series' main characters.
- As a result of a major revision to Confirmation, Jeff gains a more substantial back story by essentially absorbing the role of the main character in the defunct Legacy storyline. He also becomes the principal narrative source for flashbacks to one's college days.
