Confirmation is the third and final novel in The Mike Adams Series by Kenneth Kerns. The book is expected to be released by mid-2009.

Development
The earliest plot elements for the book were developed in summer of 2003, as Kerns was completing the first draft of Reunion At University Avenue. At the time, the story was heavily influenced by his love of slasher movies, particularly the Scream Trilogy. However, as the story evolved, and the second book was written, the series tone necessitated that the serial killer concept be dropped.
Legacy storyline
After Kerns completed a partial first draft of the book in 2006-2007, he misplaced the flash drive that carried the manuscript. This setback forced Ken to start a new project, which allowed him to consider an alternate prequel storyline to the series.
Tentatively entitled Legacy, the idea was to follow the events that occurred at the University after Adams left - including a stronger back-story for the George Avelli character.
However, as was the case when writing his first novel, he was not convinced of the entertainment value of an SG prequel, and abandoned the idea. The plot elements and anecdotes prepared for the prequel are instead being incorporated as flashbacks for the Jeff Simon character.
Time frame
The book begins in May of the year following The Proxy Senator, with Mike Adams going through his first year as the junior Senator from Florida.
Synopsis
One day in May, a tornado strikes, a lawyer dies, and a Supreme Court Justice resigns in disgrace. Mike's focus that day is on his legislative priority (of fixing NASA), and the preparations he and his fiance are making for a fall wedding. The freshman senator isn't even aware of the doors in the Capitol that even he can't get into. Yet, there are a select few who are determined to get Mike's attention, and to help him to connect the dots between these events. Even if means revealing a century's worth of secrets...

Central characters
Aimee Jackson is a crime scene consultant in central Florida, who is hired by Brevard County Police to investigate the apparent suicide of lawyer Larry Jenkins. Jeff Simon is a staff assistant for Senator Adams, working out of the Gainesville district office, whose past and present connections to the University cause him heartburn. Peter Easley is the Senate Judiciary Chairman and a nominee to the Supreme Court, whose family and voting record are being picked apart piece by piece by his right-wing opponents. Brenda Freddies is a retiring professional staff person for the University's Student Government - and knows many more secrets about the 3rd Floor than she lets on.
