"Old Walter" is an old ghost story told on University of Florida campus in Confirmation. It tells the tale of one Walter Gibson, a burly, angry University chef whose excessive drinking and thus prohibitive alcoholism leads to his suicide. His ghost then and forever haunts Buckman Hall during exam time, wailing about needing a drink - expressing a sentiment shared by many students during that time of year.

Jeff Simon first learns of the story when it is relayed to him by a fellow student senator Thomas Hardgrove, who believes the real Walter did not committ suicide, but was murdered. Simon initially dismisses the story as one of Hardgrove's wild conspiracy theories. But not every conspiracy theory is false...
